I used to work with a guy named "Tiny". Really big dude that stood about 6' tall and weighed about 300lbs. Not someone that you would want to get into a tango with. Tiny was a car salesman, just like me, and he "specialized" in getting people approved that otherwise couldn't get lettuce financed on a Big Mac. He made things happen in finance offices that were unthinkable.
Tiny had at least a thousand customers. He had customers bring in friends, bums off the street, just about anybody to buy a car.
If you needed to get approved, he was "the man" to go see. I wondered for a long time how Tiny did it, he usually sold about 20 cars a month to people that looked like they couldn't get a bicycle on credit with $200.00 down. It just made no sense. He always just said that it came from "experience".
Well, one day a police officer that just happened to be putting Tiny in the back of a police car, explained the situation to our sales manager.
Tiny was using local obituaries to find dead people that had good credit.
He would then use a "connection" to, mac, get social security numbers, personal information and a copy of their drivers license from the DMV. This was used for the credit application. The people that were in his office getting car loans became the "nieces" and "nephews" of the dead folks.
Tiny is still in prison.
